Reflections Program
"Diversity means..." is the theme for Reflections for 2011 - 2012.  For nearly 40 years, this program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art.  Designed to enhance rather than replace a quality arts education, the Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts.  National PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program.

Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas:  dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts. When children express themselves through words, pictures, music, dance, film, and other art media, they grow intellectually and they learn to analyze their thoughts and feelings.  The Reflections Program helps parents recognize, support, and enhance their childrens continuous process of self-discovery.  This program is run by parent volunteers, thereby providing another opportunity to involve parents in their childrens education.  The National PTA website offers great suggestions for parents to promote this program at your school.

The District deadline is Friday, December 6th at 2:00pm.  The drop-off schools for entries are Whispering Forest Elementary for the East Side and Fontainebleau Junior High for the West Side.  Both the student entry form and the local PTA participation form are on the District website for copying.  All of the guidelines for each category are in your Presidents handbook. There is a link to the guidelines below.

"At work, at play, let safety lead the way." is the theme for the Safety Poster contest.  The District deadline is Monday, January 9th, and the same drop-off places apply as did for the Reflections entries.  Guidelines for this contest are in each Presidents handbook for this contest as well. There is a link to the guidelines below.
