Happy New Year to each and everyone. I hope that your year has gotten of to a fabulous start and things are running smoothly. I just want to give you an update on what went on at today's General Meeting for those who weren't able to attend. We were given several dates/deadlines to remember. They are:
February 1st - Safety Poster Theme Due (send to Janice Webb)
Educator of Distinction/Honor and Outstanding Unit
Applications/Newsletter entry/Website entry DUE TO STATE
February 7th - Leadership Grant Application DUE for state
February 9th - District General Meeting - 7PM at Salmen High School in Slidell
March 1st - Membership Dues Report DUE
MArch 5th - Leadership Grant Application DUE for National
March 12th - Children's District Banquet
April 9th-10th - Louisiana State Convention - Baton Rouge
You will receive information soon on the Children's banquet. Make sure you get with your Cultural Arts chair and notify those students who placed at district level.
District Board will be having elections for three positions on District Board for next year. If you or someone you know are interested in any of these positions, please email me that information. We will be electing a Treasurer, 1st VP ( in charge of Membership) and a 3rd VP ( in charge of Reflections).
District PTA is offering Leadership Grants for State and National Convention this year. These form will be on district website soon. If you have trouble, let me know and I will get you copies of these applications. I encourage you to look into going. . I, like many of you, wondered what were the benefits of State Convention. We were given the top ten reasons for attending . I would like to share these with you. Take these to your board and discuss you or someone from your PTA going.
TOP TEN RASONS TO ATTEND STATE CONVENTION
1. an Inspirational two-days for parents, teachers, administrators and students to rejuvenate.
2. Be sure to visit our exhibit hall featuring great fundraising, cultural arts and educational ideas.
3. Don't miss our member's exchange during our met and greets.
4. New seminars dealing with the latest legislative, environmental and special education issues.
5. Let your voice be heard and vote for important bylaw changes and new position statements.
6. Time to network with other dedicated volunteers from around the state, exchange ideas, and sharing individual success stories.
7. Learn techniques on improving your units memberships: Our National Representative this year will be our new president: Chuck Saylors
8. Questions on handling a meeting: Come learn about Robert's Rules of order, and how to use this tool at your meeting.
9. Learn ways to handle situations that arise during your meetings. Example: How to work with difficult fellow board members - How to work with your principal - How to encourage more participation.
10. Don't devalue MOTIVATION - get motivated for nest year - LEARN how to motivate YOUR volunteers!
